Wahhhhh! Gnaw, gnaw, gnaw! Wahhhh! Slobber, slobber, slobber.
I will give you one guess as to what that describes… a teething baby or one miserable time for all parties involved. It is going to happen to every Mom out there but each child will be different so all we can do is agree that it just isn’t fun. Michael was fine for his first four teeth but his most recent ones… look out!
In the beginning I didn’t even have time to process what was going on because his fussy period would be over in a day. He would be cranky one day and wake up the next morning with a tooth that had poked through! The past two teeth that have come in have been so close together that it has just been awful.
He is chewing in the back and I have heard the molars are terribly painful for them. I am just guessing but he is waking up at night because bigger teeth are coming in. If you think you have a good sleeper you just wait! Michael used to sleep 12 hours a night, unless it was a growth spurt where he would wake up to eat and pass back out. Teething is a whole different beast.
I was so stinkin’ excited recently because I tried something new by Gentle Naturals. They make a homeopathic teething drop and I was beyond thrilled when he slept good for two nights in a row! Let’s PAR-TAY! I honestly had never heard about teething drops because none of my Mommy friends have used them. I am sold though!
I feel like I have been knighted with the secret teething sword and I am ready for battle now. It has been a rough journey but the things in life that are worth it are harder.
Here are a few tips from me and some from my Mommy friends:
- Michael likes the harder rubber teethers versus the soft, flexible ones.
- Frozen teethers are fun to play with and feel good.
- April has tried frozen wash cloths.
- Michael likes when I rub his gums but that is dangerous anymore with his choppers.
- Teething gels never worked for me but others do like them.
- I have heard great things about teething tablets but haven’t tried them myself because they are $7 a box! Ouch!
