Meijer Shopping: AWESOME Colgate & Soft Soap Deal

meijer shopping trip

(Not pictured: 8 cans of Ortega Black Beans)

Meijer was good to me with the inserts that came out today because it complemented the catalina deal, rebate and coupons.  It was as if the stars aligned for this sale!  :)

Kraft Shredded Cheese $2
Use .50/2 printable reset!!
= $1.50 each
(This is my buy price for cheese anymore!)

KY Jelly $3.06
Use $3 from 1/8 ss
= .06
(Hill Rd was plenty stocked.  I noticed that they changed the packaging!)

2 Lipton Tea $4.44
Use $3/2 mPerks
Stack with (2) .50 from 1/29 rp
or stack with (2) $1 printables no longer available?
= FREE
(The second paper coupon will say NOT VALID when it scans so make sure you explain that it can’t be the face value of the coupon.)

4 Lipton Soup Secrets $4
Use $1/4 Mealbox
Stack with (4) .40 from 1/29 rp
= .15 each!

4 Ortega Black Beans $2.64
Use $1/4 mealbox
Stack with (2) .50 from 1/15 ss
= FREE
(The coupons will cause problems so make sure you prompt them saying the second .50 can’t double and will need to be adjusted)

With the Ortega deal there are TONS of good prices!

  • Taco Seasoning .54
  • Sauce and Shells were $1.29-$1.49

I use a free product coupon for the 20 oz Coke from My Coke Rewards.

There were other deals too I saw.

Knorr Pasta Sides are $1.09
Use .50/2 from 1/29 RP
= .55 each
(They are on sale for $1 at Kroger so you are saving .05 each)

Knorr Recipe Mixes $1
Use .50/2 from 1/29 RP
= .50 each
(I can’t justify the sodium content of these and they really just don’t taste good to me)

***UPDATE 2/1/12***

2 Knorr Pasta Sides are $2.18
Use .50/2 from 1/29 RP
Stack with .50/2 mPerk
= .34 each

2 Knorr Recipe Mixes $2
Use .50/2 from 1/29 RP
Stack with .50/2 mPerk
= .25 each

2 Lipton Soup Secrets $2
Use (2) .40 from 1/29 RP
Stack with .75/2 mPerk
= 2 FREE
(You will have problems with this coupon because it is technically an overage scenario.  Just explain it needs to be adjusted down)

Deans Dip .99
Use $1/2 from 1/15 ss
= .49 each

Chi Chis Salsa .99
Use $1/2 printable
= .49 each

There is a $2 Ecotrin mPerks and a $1.50 coupon  from this weekend but I didn’t check the price while I was there.  I was too consumed by getting the Colgate prices!  :)

There is a catalina offer I saw on the Mealbox site and in store for buying 2 marinades and getting a catalina for $1.50.  It was quite confusing while I was at the store as to which were included.  I can confirm that the Soy Sauces ARE NOT included.  The marinades are $2.56 and the sauces are $1.56.  Darn!

I looked for the Land O Lakes Fresh Buttery Spread at Hill Rd and they didn’t carry it.  Bummer!  Just in case your store does you can grab this deal.

Land O Lakes Fresh Buttery Spread $1.50
Use .50 from 1/8 SS
= .50 OOP
Submit for the B1G1 rebate form HERE
= .25 each after the rebate!

30 Meals in One Day Review

cream cheese chicken ingredients

Let me start off by saying that this review has taken me FOREVER to write!  I have been obsessed with everything about this cook book and I wanted to do a very very detailed job reviewing it for you guys.  If you are my friends and family then you have already heard me talking about it an can vouch for how much I love this product!

I got this in the mail in August, right after the baby arrived, and have been testing it since then.  I have since recommended it to any and all expecting parents who need to eat but don’t have the time with a newborn!  I even volunteered to go to one of my very close girlfriend’s house right before she pops and do the true 30 Meals in One Day with her!  I can’t rave about how nice it is to have a freezer stocked enough.

Recipes:

As far as the recipes go they are delicious!  We have only found one that we don’t like so far, Mayo Chicken, and that could be due to the type of rice we used.  I am not quite sure but out of all of the recipes I have tried to only find one that we don’t like is amazing!

Process:

They make everything so simple!  These are some of the easiest recipes I have ever used and I am a lazy chef!  It really is possible to make 30 meals in one day the way they have you do it.  The picture below shows you how to maximize your freezer space.  Just lay your freezer bags full of food down flat!

Software & Cookbook:

To be completely honest I do not use the physical cookbook too often.  I adore the software that goes with the book though!  At first it was a little intimidating but once I got used to it, I fell in love.  You can make your shopping list based on the recipes you have picked out and print it out.

This is the screen that pops up once you open the software.  All of your recipes are on the left side and the details to make the recipe are on the right side.  All you have to do is go through and pick the meals that you want to cook and then select 'Add to Menu' on the bottom.

For this example I have picked a bunch of chicken recipes since I buy chicken in bulk for $1.49/pound.  If you look at the left side you will see that some say Oven, Assemble, Slow Cooker and Stove Top.  That is the key to getting so many meals cooked so fast.  You are doing different types of cooking methods all at once.  It is genius!

Then if you move to the shopping list tab it takes everything and puts it into a list for you!  I shopped with my list and it made everything SO STINKIN' EASY and I didn't forget anything for my recipes!  This is an idiot proof way to cook in bulk without running to the store for this ingredient or that ingredient!

Here is one of my favorite recipes of theirs, Cream Cheese Chicken, that I modified slightly to be simpler to cook.  Just CLICK HERE to see the recipe!

Motherhood: 6 Month Update

So much happens on a daily basis now that I feel like I need to do a weekly update sometimes!  It is so mind blowing how quickly Baby Michael is reaching milestones!

  • 22.5 pounds
  • 27.5 inches

We had our first Christmas as a family!  It was so much fun and so hard on Michael!  It was a very long couple of days and he doesn’t like to sleep in public because he is so interested in his surroundings.  My Mother in Law bought him the cutest Santa suit and it was the hit of the party!  He managed to keep it clean from 8am until we got home that night too!

After Michael eats he lounges and watches Mickey Mouse or Yo Gabba Gabba.  Typical male right?!  He is now up to 12 ounces of solid food each day with 24 ounces of formula.  I have no idea if that is right because a lot of pediatricians hold off on solids, outside of baby cereal, until 6 months but I have a big boy on my hands!

I have found that he spits up less now that he is eating more solid foods.  I thought that by giving him solids he would start taking less formula but that isn’t the case at all for him!  I usually give him 4 ounces at the 2 hour mark and wait until he gets fussy for his bottle, which could be anytime in the following hour.

He is now holding his bottle about 70% of the time!  He will typically hold it no problems until he gets fascinated with the TV.  He has a harder time when the bottle gets empty because he doesn’t understand he needs to angle it to get more quite yet.  :) This was the big event that happened during the 5th month!  His ear drum burst and there were little to no signs.  I was trying to get him to sleep in the Pack N Play downstairs because we weren’t 100% comfortable with me walking upstairs multiple times a day alone with him and he kept screaming when I would put him down.  So I figured he was either uncomfortable, hated that it wasn’t his crib or was in pain from teething.

I went and picked him up and his ear smelled a little funny and when I was giving him a kiss I got my nose wet.  So I immediately took a picture of it and posted it in my Mommy group because I thought it was an ear drum bursting but I wanted their opinions.

So off to the Doctor we went!  The Doctor said that a lot of times kids come in with blood in their ears it is from scratches so I was very happy that I took a picture and even he was amazed with the amount of blood from his ear.  This was the first symptom really because he was acting normal when he was awake!  The only time he fussed was putting him down in the Pack n Play.

The more I thought about it I realized that this doesn’t even qualify me as a bad Mom because babies can’t tell you what hurts.  I am a Mom who looks for patterns and writes down feedings and naps so I know what he wants.  I can tell you that he can only be awake 2 hours before getting fussy and likes to eat 6 ounces every 2.5 hours, even if he gets 4 ounces of food.  He acted normal and that is why I didn’t catch it.

For Christmas his Great Granny got him the coolest ties that I have seen for a little boy!  He even has a formal wear bib that he hasn’t worn quite yet.  Just looking at these bibs makes me smile to myself because they are so clever!  In the picture on the left he is watching Mickey Mouse and is so captivated!  That show is amazing outside of the songs that get stuck in your head!  I found a cool tuxedo one on Amazon for $3.99 too!

Michael’s Uncle was home from the Army for the holidays and bought him a cute little Army onesie.  It is so cute how much Kyle enjoys spending time with him.  He is always over when he is home and playing with the baby.  Kyle even watched Yo Gabba Gabba with him while he was over one day.

He is crawling every and LOVES coupons/paper!  He has mastered the Army crawl and almost has the true crawl down.  Right now he rocks back and forth once he gets up to his knees and sometimes will crawl with one knew up but not both.  With the combination of rolling and crawling he gets into everything!

He is now laughing pretty much all of the time!  This video is actually his first unassisted laugh.  I wasn’t even by him and all of a sudden he starts laughing!  I was lucky he kept going so I could get it on camera for Daddy.  He will even laugh at the TV when Mickey is on.  I sure would love to know what goes on in his head!

At his 6 month appointment he had a VEP which is just like an EEG but it plays music and has colorful pictures on the screen.  They hooked of 2 sensors on his forehead and one on the back of his head to read his brain waves.  Apparently there was something abnormal with his left eye so we are going to see an ophthalmologist just to make sure.

He had his shots again this month and is doing so well with them!  The first one he gets he doesn’t cry and then he gets mad for a few of them.  After they are done he is A OK though.  They gave him half of his flu shot instead of Polio this time.  We have to go back at 7 months and get the other half of his flu shot and his Polio shot.  He is in love with that Rotovirus vaccine now because it is like he is eating!

Until next month!

Weight Loss: Week 1 with Shaklee Corporation

cinch pomegranate energy tez

Thursday 1/19/12

I start off my mornings with a Cinch vanilla protein shake about 9:00 am followed by my Cinch 3in1 Boost pill.

At lunch, about Noon, I had some leftovers from the previous night’s dinner and my Boost pill.  For lunch I eye balled it and I would say I had 3 servings of lean protein and 1 serving of a starch.

I tried their Cinch Energy Tea Mix in Pomegranate and it isn’t bad.  It taste like Pomegranate flavored water.  I mixed my tea packet with 8 oz of cold water since you can choose hot or cold.  I am not sure if I should be drinking this tea because I did get a headache from it later in the day.  I don’t drink caffeine at all and I am very very sensitive to it.  For the rest of the week I am going to continue without it and see if I still have a headache or not.

At 4:00 pm I started to get a little hungry again so I tried one of their Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Meal in a Bar and it was so yummy!  I couldn’t even tell that I was eating a protein bar.  It has 270 calories, 32 grams of carbohydrates, 6 grams of fiber and 20 grams of protein.

For dinner I ate another well rounded meal very similar to my lunch. This meal had 2 servings of vegetables though.  So overall it was a good eating day.

NiNi Baby Toy Bungee Review

nini toy bungee

I know I haven’t experienced the full stages of pacifiers, toys and cups quite yet but I understand a good concept when I am presented with one.  I was lucky enough that Baby Michael never took a pacifier so I didn’t have to deal with flying pacifiers.  I am not quite to the stage where he sits in his high chair and drinks on his own from a sippy cup so I haven’t dealt with that either.  What I have dealt with is flying toys!

Baby Michael is a master at playing with his toy, dropping it and repeating.

There is a bungee for everything made by NiNi Baby!  I reviewed the toy/cup bungee for this post.  It is marketed as being able to use it in strollers, car seats and high chairs.

At first I was confused on how to get this thing set up right but I eventually figured it out.  This little piece is the anchor and goes on the item that you are going to use as the stationary item.

This is where I attached it on my highchair at first and realized that was not the correct spot as you will see in a few more pictures.

Next you attach the longer piece that connects to the cup/toy.  It just clipped right into the anchor piece.

Next you wrap the long part around your item.  You need to attach the little grey part to the yellow circle.  It was a little tight to slip it around but it needs to be so the kids can’t slip it off.

As you can see from this picture I did not put it in the right spot and it wasn’t reaching far enough so that Michael could use it.

Once I moved it to a different spot on the chair it would reach where it could actually be used by your child.  I guess it would just depend on your highchair.

I am excited to use this more as we get into the phase where he is sitting in his highchair and drinking from a sippy cup on his own.  So far I do recommend it for toys you don’t want to fall on the floor all of the time.

You can buy a Toy Bungee for $8.95 , a Pacifier Bungee for $6.50 and a Crayon Bungee for $15.95 through my Mompact Site!

Tidy Tots Potty Chair Liners Review

tidy tots potty chair liner

Do you hate cleaning the potty chair?  Or do you have a Husband who won’t do it because he thinks it is gross?  (much like mine)  You should give Tidy Tots a try if you answered yes to either of those questions.

Tidy Tots are so easy to use and for this review I am demonstrating on a bowl with water.  Baby Michael is only 6 months old so I couldn’t try them on him but you will get the idea.  I didn’t really want to demonstrate with urine anyways!  :)

In the picture above I have taken the bag and slipped it on the bowl and placed the soaker pad inside.  Apparently, this pad can hold the urine of 2-3 trips to the bathroom for a little one.  I tested it with 1 cup of water because I have zero idea the amount that they go each time.

I was a little nervous that the pad wasn’t going to soak up the full amount of water.  I watched the pad in the bowl and sure enough it soaked it all up!  This picture above shows you how the pad expands as it is filled with water.  I was reading around on their site and these pads are made with the same absorbent material as diapers.  It was very squishy to touch when it was all full.

When you have a mess in your potty chair you can just pull the bag up and tie it like a trash bag.  Then you can toss out the mess and you don’t have to clean the potty chair afterwards.

I did ask some of the Moms in my Mommy Group and the thoughts were mixed.  There was only one Mom who I had given a sample to so the others were just going off of their experiences without them.  The Mom who used them said it made things a lot cleaner!  One Mom thought that the kids would take them out of the potty creating a problem.  Another Mom said that her daughter would not go on the potty chair and would only use the toilet.  We all agreed that it will depend on the child!

Even though I have never potty trained I am 98% certain that I will be using these!  Daddy Michael has already said he will not be cleaning a potty chair and I fully believe him because he can barely change a poopy diaper!  I am not joking!!

You can buy 16 pads and liners for $7.95 on my Mompact site!

I made a really quick trip into Meijer today for a few of the 10 for 10 deals and one more Beech-Nut baby food deal.  I didn’t scout around too much but I found a few items worth mentioning.  I did 4 transactions so I could roll the catalina deals.  I paid $6.28 for #1, $0 for #2, $4.80 for #3 and $2.49 for #4 for a grand total of  $13.57!

I had another crabby cashier today too!  I took my 4 free product coupons to the uscan lady because I knew they would beep.  I thought I was being nice because she didn’t have to leave her computer and help me, I was wrong.  She only put in one of my coupons and it was for .59 off instead of the $1.18 it should have been.  So I walked back over and explained what happened.  She got so frustrated with me that she said ‘Jeeze my Dad just died and this is worse’.  Really?!

I just got my Cinch kit in the mail from Shaklee Corporation and I am so excited to get this journey started!  I am not someone who needs to lose a lot of weight because I dropped 55 pounds after my pregnancy.  Don’t ask me how but I did!  Now I am to the point where Baby Michael will be 6 months tomorrow and I can drop him at the daycare and workout!  So far I noticed that is can be nearly impossible to eat properly when you are taking care of an infant.

My goals:

  1. Tone back up… EVERYWHERE
  2. Lose these annoying love handles
  3. Drop about 7  more pounds to reach 150 pounds
  4. To stay healthy

I am a big inches person versus watching the scale even though I put 150 in my goals.  When I was 150 pounds I was technically still over weight according to the BMI but my doctor and I both agreed that I looked very healthy.  I had a lot of muscle mass which is probably why the charts said I was overweight.

Protein shakes can be gross!  I have tasted some pretty ragged shakes so when I made my vanilla shake I was nervous to try it.  Typically I make Daddy Michael try things before I will!  :)   Surprise surprise that this shake tasted very close to cookie dough!  It was great and I can’t let Daddy Michael know or he will drink it all!

So I started my weight loss at about 1:30 pm with a 270 calorie, 16 grams of protein and 24 carbohydrate shake at 1pm with my vitamin that comes in their kits.  I can’t really count today as apart of my true journey because I totally failed and ate some scrumptious Snackwell cookies, drank a cherry Kool-Aid Jammer and had a Motts Applesauce cup!  Hey, I didn’t know it would arrive today!

I went ahead and grabbed a Cinch Peanut Butter Crunch Bar about 5:00 pm before getting ready for the gym.  It didn’t as good as the shake but it wasn’t bad.  It tasted like a protein bar and protein bars aren’t made to taste like a delicious bowl of ice cream.  Does that make sense?  It didn’t taste bad and yes I will continue to eat them.  It has 130 calories, 15 grams of carbohydrates and 10 grams of protein.

I am the most interested in the Cinch products because it preserves your lean body mass so I am not losing my muscle mass.  Gaining muscle is my overall goal so that is important to me. Based on my starting weight they tell me that I should consume 1500 calories a day.

My Starting weight: 157.4 pounds

My Measurements:

  • Right Arm: 12.25 inches
  • Left Arm:  12.625 inches
  • Neck: 13.25 inches
  • Waist: 30.5 inches
  • Hips: 38.5 inches
  • Right Thigh:  24.75 inches
  • Left Thigh: 24.875 inches

Here are my pictures for a before and after.  Again, I am going for an overall toning/muscle gain not as much weight loss.  I want my muscles back!  I am not unhappy with my body but it can be improved upon.

If you want to buy your own Cinch Starter Kit is it $193.80 for members or that is less than $50 a week.  Follow Shaklee Corporation on Facebook.

I received these products in order to facilitate my review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

Yum Yum Dish 9Plate Review

Yum Yum Dish 9plate

Have you ever heard of Yum Yum Dishes?  Did you know that normal plates are 11-13 inches?  I did a review back in November 2010 for their 4 ounce bowl, which was perfect for multi tasking snacking.  This time I got to review their 9Plate and I must say that the reminder of portion control actually works!

I took a second picture without the flash to help you see the yellow words that divide up the plate.  The plate is divided into three sections with half of it for veggies, 1/4 for protein and 1/4 for starch.

Do you see the difference in my plate and Michael’s plate?  Michael eats a lot and we are working on that but my plate is the perfect size!  I think that we eat what is put on our plate and end up eating too much and being ‘stuffed’.  Sometimes he doesn’t eat it all but 80% of the time he does even though he is full. (He ate his whole plate tonight and had a handful of cashews afterwards!)

Even before I received this plate to review I had switched from using the normal dinner plates (on the left) to using the smaller plate (on the right).  I rarely get seconds and still feel full afterwards.  I am sitting here 2 hours after eating my meal, pictured above, and I still feel pleasantly full.  I feel so much better when I don’t overeat.

I use my plate regularly and think it is a great addition to people who made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight or to be healthier.  You can buy your own set of plates online for $29.  Follow Yum Yum Dishes on Facebook or Twitter.

I received a 9Plate in order to facilitate my review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

Guest Post: How to Make Your Own Coasters

These personable homemade coasters are a great gift idea for anyone or a great way to add some spice to your living room. This is a do-it-yourselfer at anyone can do and very inexpensive. The best part is that you have complete control on how you want it to look.

Here is what you will need to get started. You can find most items at your local craft store for a low cost.

  • Square White Tiles
  • Sponge Brush
  • ModPodge
  • Photos
  • Sticky Felt Pad
  • Scissors

Head over to a Home Depot or Lowes and pick up white tiles. They come in several different sizes, choose any size you want and they cost anywhere from 10-30 cents a tile. Choose how many coasters you want 4-6 is a good typical amount.  A good tip is to pick up a couple extra just in case!

Print off photos that you want to use, this is where you can get creative. If you are doing a gift for your mother print off photos that she will like, making them all black and white is a nice touch.  Print of two copies of each photo, one extra for a backup.

Cut the picture to fit the face of the tile.

Take the sponge brush and dip it in the modpodge, brush an even layer over the blank tile. Place the photo on the tile; give it a few minutes to dry. Then with your sponge brush, brush on more modpodge. Let it dry for 15-20mins. Add another coat. Repeat this step 3 to 4 times. The modpodge will seal the photo, allowing you to set drinks on the coasters and not ruining the photos.

Once everything is dry, cut the sticky felt pad to fit the underside of the tile and place it on. This is so that you don’t scratch table surfaces.

If you don’t want to do photos, look at the scrapbook/cardstock isle at your local craft store, follow the

Simple as 1,2,3. Stack them and tie a pretty bow and around and you have a gift for under 10 bucks ready to go! Happy crafting!

Top 8 Money Saving Tips Using Print and Online Coupons

Using Coupons to Save Money

We’re being told that inflation is in check, even though prices seem to be going up steadily, particularly at the gas pump and the grocery store. However, it’s “core inflation” that remains low, the economists tell us, which reflects the price of goods minus food and energy. After all, who buys food and energy? Oh, that’s right, we all do, and it’s often our two biggest expenditures.

There is a way to save on food, and perhaps gas as well, by doing something people have been doing for over one hundred years – using coupons. With a little planning, clipping, and clicking, you can put quite a dent in your next grocery bill. You may even be able to get a break at the pump while you’re at it.

  • Pick up the Sunday paper
    • That’s where you’ll find the coupons, as well as the grocery store circulars. You’ll need both. Grab the scissors and start clipping those coupons. Obviously you’ll be concentrating on the type of products you regularly buy, but brand loyalty may have to take a backseat.[1]
  • Online coupons
    • For a while, many grocery stores would not accept online coupons printed from websites or mobile coupons available on smartphones, but that’s changing. Stores can validate legitimate coupons, and the coupon sites themselves require you to sign up. This helps reduce the possibility of multiple print-outs.[2] Some of the more reputable sites are RedPlum.com (who also do the hard copy newspaper inserts), Coupons.com, Couponsavings.com, and Grocerysmarts.com.
  • Make that double
    • Check area supermarkets’ coupon policy. Some double coupons up to a certain value, while others occasionally triple coupons. There are a few that will even match prices from a competitor’s circular.[3]
  • Brand websites and social coupons
    • Brands sometimes offer online coupons on their websites, and increasingly offer social coupons through their Twitter and Facebook accounts. If it’s a product you use often, like and follow them through their social media sites, and keep an eye out for special offers.[4]
  • Organize
    • Get yourself a coupon binder or wallet to organize your clippings. There are several categories you can use, but the most logical is by product types, such as dairy, frozen, or breakfast. If you favor a particular store, you might arrange then by your favorite location’s layout.[4]
  • Cross reference
    • Now grab those store circulars and match up the coupons with items that the supermarket has on sale. If you’re in market with competing grocery chains, it may be worth your while to split your shopping between the competitors. Include all types of stores that sell groceries in your area. Drugstores like Rite-Aid, CVS, and Walgreen’s have sale circulars and accept both print and online coupons. Large retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart do the same.[4]
  • Store loyalty programs
    • Many local supermarkets now ask you to join a “shopper’s club” in order to take advantage of their advertised specials. Getting the card will also allow you to obtain online coupons from the store’s website.[5] These can be loaded onto your card and redeemed automatically. Be careful though; you can’t use a manufacturer’s coupon and the store’s online coupon together. The online version usually takes precedent.[2]
  • Food that gives you gas—discounts
    • In many cities, grocery stores are either installing gas pumps or teaming up with a gas station chain to offer discounts that are tied to how much you spend on groceries. The programs vary. Some offer 10 cents per gallon off for every $100 spent in a given month, for example. Others offer a percent discount that increases as you hit certain levels, say $50, or $100. Usually the gas is competitively priced, but occasionally it’s a few cents more, which of course eats into your discount.[6]

Coupons can help cut your grocery bill in half, and give you a break at the pump. All it takes is a little effort, and a bit of planning.

store brand formula

I had no idea that there was a site dedicated to providing us with a $5 coupon for store brand formulas! Store brand formulas are a good way to save money on formula and a lot of Moms that I know use them.  The most popular would be Walmart’s Parent’s Choice formula.

HippMAMA Belt Review

hippmama belt

Recently I was talking to some of my Mommy friends about shopping with a baby.  It is bound to happen because you have to go to the grocery store eventually and not everyone is lucky enough to have family near to play baby sitter while you shop.  The conversation was started when I found an article about infants getting injured or dying because their parents sit their seats on top of the cart. I never though that was the best option but everyone else seemed to be doing it!

So my girlfriend told me how she positions her car seats in the cart to save room so you can get more than a handful of groceries (see picture above). OK- one problem solved.  I still had the problem of that bulky diaper bag!  That diaper bag takes up so much space too and it won’t always fit under the cart.

<Insert HippMAMA Belt>

So what do I really need while I am in the store?  I might need a bottle, diaper, wipes (lets hope not!), burp cloth, a place for my keys, my debit card, ID, phone and my coupons!  The HippMAMA has 5 pouches on the belt and in arms reach.  This belt has actually solved a lot of problems for me so far.  I don’t lose my keys and phone in the diaper bag, I am not digging through my diaper bag looking for things and it saves space so I can fit all of my groceries in my cart.

The one downfall to the belt is that you really have to use pre-made bottles or those ready to feed bottles.  You can’t carry your tub of formula in your belt!  I recently purchased one of those 3 compartment powder formula holders and I love it.  So I had to rearrange my belt from the traditional set up of slots.  I took the diaper/wipe one and made it the one that holds the formula.  It doesn’t fit perfect but it works for me.

These are all of the items that I think are important to have in a store just in case.  (besides my license and debit card)  All of these will fit into the belt and save so much space!

If you don’t like where the pouches are on your belt you can move them.  They have a very simple Velcro on the back that holds them in place.

There is even a ring on the belt for your burp cloth.  I have found that if I am caught without a burp cloth there is going to be a mess!  If I wanted to I could also connect his favorite toy to this ring.  Since it is Winter he has to wear his bear suit and that means his hands are covered so he can’t play with any toys.

There is another hook on the belt for your keys.  I sort of wish jeans came with a belt to hold my keys too :)

Everything fits in the HippMAMA belt and you can tell where I modified it for the formula.  (It is in the bulged pocket.)  since I made a change with the diaper pocket I had to put my diaper in another pocket.  I found that I had to fold the diaper in half to get it into the smaller pocket.

Overall, I think this is a great product for a Mom who needs more arms.  I personally have no experience wearing it with multiple kids because I am not there yet but it is marketed for that purpose too.  I think it is fabulous for the grocery store though!  All you have to do is get over the look of it.  Not because it is ugly, because it is something you don’t see everyday.

You can buy it on Amazon for $29.99 and it qualifies for FREE S/H!

Hot Joe Jacket Review

hot joe jacket teacher's favorite

All of you coffee drinkers out there are going to be happy with the next product I am going to talk about!  It is called a Hot Joe Jacket and it is made to replace the crummy paper coffee sleeve you get when you buy coffee.  Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t drink coffee. <blah!> That does not mean I am not able to review the Hot Joe Jacket because there is always HOT COCOA!

My Mother in Law fell in love with this product when she saw it.  She is a teacher so she really loved the Teacher’s Favorite design.  All of the designs are reversible so can change it as you see fit.  I can get pretty bored so this is a nice feature for me.

They are made of pretty durable fabric and nice and soft.  They are made in the USA and you can machine wash them in cold water.  I assume that you are going to get dribbles on it. Why do I assume you ask?  Because my Husband seems to get coffee all over the house during his morning pot of coffee!

They fit many different types of items.  You can use them on your frozen water bottles, on your travel mugs and even on your coffee mugs you get from the coffee shops.  I tested the 5 mugs that are pictured above on how the Hot Joe Jacket fit. The mugs pictured above do not work with the Hot Joe Jacket.  I sort of figured that it wouldn’t work but I wanted to try just to make sure.  The two with the handles didn’t work because the handle is too far down the cup.  The penguin one on the right didn’t work because it is too big.

These two coffee mugs were the best for fitting.  The mug on the right seems to just barely fit but it still did and was actually the one I cared the most about.  The one on the left is your standard coffee shop cup so I knew it would fit.

These sleeves are reasonably priced at $7.95 and would make great teacher’s gift.  One of my blogger friends mentioned that pairing a Hot Joe Jacket with a Starbucks gift card would be a great combination.  I thought that was a great idea for a gift under $20 for a coffee lover.

You can buy you very own on my Mompact Site!

Meijer Shopping Trip

2012-01-15_16-52-52_920

This is a very small week for Meijer deals for me.  They are having a Meijer brand 10 for 10 sale and it just isn’t that good to me.  I regret not getting the shredded cheese last week at $1.50 because I had to buy it this week for $2!  I am thinking that $1.50 is going to be my new buy price for cheese.

2 Smartsource milks @ $2.59
Use (2) $1.50 from 1/8 SS
Stack with $1/2 mealbox
= .59 for a half gallon

4 Barilla Sauce @ $2
Use (4) $1 printable no longer available
Stack with $1/4 mealbox
= .75 each

4 Motts Juice @ $2.19
1 Motts Applesauce $1.67
Use (2) $1/2 Motts mealbox
**$5 comes off at register for buying 5
= .69 each

Eggs .99 ( I forgot them- Boo!)

There is a $1/2 Starkist tuna mealbox printable that you can stack with the .50 printable or the .50 found in 1/1 RP but I did not check the price while I was there. I assume that they will be about $1.25 like they are at Kroger so you should be getting an awesome deal!  I used all of my Starkist coupons already though :(

If you haven’t already found out there is an even better bonus to the Beechnut baby food deal right now!  The stage 2 food isn’t on sale for .40 anymore but you are still snagging a sweet deal because each jar should come out to under .20 a piece.  The Stage 2.5 are about .59 so I will use that as an example.  Thanks for finding this mPerks Sam!

Buy 16 Stage 2.5 $9.44
Use (4) $1.10/4 printables (-$4.40)
Stack with $2/16 mPerks (-$2)
oop = $3.04
Get back $3 catalina
= .04 for 16 jars!!!

I only paid $9.79 and $4 of that was that darn cheese!  I would give the Hill Rd Meijer some time to stock back up because they only had the 4 juices I bought left and very minimal applesauce choices left. They had cherry and peach flavors of applesauce on the shelves.

Top 5 Items Every New Mom Should Have

I remember making my registry and I had no idea where to start and I was so overwhelmed that I put 5 of every thing on it.  That presents a problem when people are buying for you because you will end up with multiples.  How do you know what jumper or swing to buy besides going off of your theme?

Not too long after I became a Mom did I make a Mommy Group on Facebook for friends my age with children who are around my baby’s age.  It is such a support system and I highly recommend any new Mom make one or find a friend of yours that has already made one.  You are going to run into so many questions or situations that you want to know about it isn’t funny.  If you get on baby forums like I was then you are going to see every worse case scenario and if you are a worrier you should just stay away.

I kept coming across things that work beautifully and I have said on many occasions ‘why don’t people talk about this?’.  Second time Moms think it is easier because they have been there done that!  Well first time Moms need a break too!  I hope that some of the things on this list bring some relief to a sleep deprived, emotional and frustrated new Mom.  I know there have to be people like me out there who are baby dense and become a Mom and think to themselves ‘now what?’. OK- I was pretty bad so maybe I am one of the few!  :)

Meijer Shopping Trip

Meijer Shopping Trip

I ran into  Meijer to pick up some  more lube because I am giving up on any Walmart stores having it in stock… EVER!  I also learned that the Walmart warehouse is out of the Schick women’s disposable razors priced at $1.97.  I am sure they can’t keep up since there is a $2 coupon out there making them free.  Another silly thing with their ordering at the Burton store is that they are out of 2oz KY but only have 12 arriving in 3 days!  Only having 12 for the store with the abundance of $3 KY printables and coupons from the paper is just not enough.

I very very briefly looked at the ad and mPerks and saw a couple things that perked my interest enough to walk some aisles after I got my lube.  After going over my receipt I sure do get cranky when they don’t take the coupons off right!  I had one heck of a time at Meijer today so be prepared!

6 Campbell’s Soup at Hand $1
Use (3) .50/2 from 1/8 SS (only 2 will double)
Stack with $1/6 mPerks
OOP = $2.00

When I was in the store I saw that you got a $1.25 catalina wyb 4 soups.

= 1.50 for 6 or .21 each

Well that would have been nice but I got jipped .25 for a coupon scanning wrong so they were .25 each. I hate catching these things once I get home!  Meijer needs to reevaluate their coupon scanning because Kroger is way better.  I am irritated because it seems every coupon I used gave me grief.  I really hate when computers don’t work properly and I have to babysit the screen- annoying.

Here is what was taken off.

-$1 for mPerk
(2) .50/2 doubled to $1
(1) .50/2 only scanned at .25!

Next I was walking around and on the floor they were advertising a sale where you purchase 3 Kool Aid Jammers and get $3 off at the register and they were on sale for 3/$5 this week.

3 Kool Aid Jammers $5
$3 automatically deducts
$1/3 mPerks
= 3 for $1!

More walking resulted in my finding Teddy Graham cups for $1.19!

Teddy Graham Cups $1.19
Use $3/3 from 1/8 SS
= .19 each!!

That was a great find and I knew that the coupon would be a good one to carry around to the stores with me!  I warn you that the coupon is only scanning at $2.38 so make sure you pay attention!

It is such a good week for lunches with the Teddy Grahams and Jammers!

COUPON WARNING

Did you know that Meijer has a $20 coupon limit per order?  I didn’t and let me tell you save yourself some headache and split those orders up!  You would think that the cashier, who looked through the coupons, would have said ‘hey we need to break these up’.  Not so much.  She tried to scan them all and once they started giving her problems said ‘oh we can’t use more than $20 in coupons’.  We could have saved some headache and fixed it before this.
