Check Out This New Bottle: BARE™ Air-Free Baby Bottles

So I am going to have a baby in 24 days and bottles were something I toyed with this whole pregnancy.  What type of bottles do I use?  I am all about asking other Mom’s their experiences and we did settle upon Dr Brown’s bottles.  Then I got asked to help promote this new bottle that is very similar to a Mother’s Breast: BARE™ Air-Free Baby Bottles.

Priska Diaz is the Mom behind the development of this new bottle.  Before I decided to post and help promote this project I went to real life Mom’s and asked them about their past experiences and how this product would measure up.  The opinions of this bottle’s concept were very positive.  I was happy to hear the positive feedback too because it means I had a good opinion too!  :)

The BARE's nipple extends up to twice its length

Personally, my favorite feature of the bottle is the nipple.  If all goes well I do plan to breast feed and pump for as long as I can to feed the baby once it arrives.  I keep hearing about ‘nipple confusion’ and how some Mom’s don’t want to give their babies pacifiers in the beginning.  Well I believe that the extending nipple on this bottle is going to help with that!

The specially punctured Perfe-latch™ nipple works in synergy with tip extension and Air-plug™ action to only dispense milk upon suckling, like mother’s breast.

This bottle isn’t on the market yet but you can pre order your bottles through the Kickstarter program- through this link. The program is currently being funded for the December 2011 production and distribution to the financial backers.  You can look forward to a small distribution of these bottles coming in January 2012.  I personally have backed this project financially and I can’t wait to try my bottle once it arrives later this year!

I highly recommend checking out all of the facts on this bottle on the Kickstarter site as well because there are a lot of other benefits to this bottle that I didn’t highlight.  I told you my favorite point and you should read up on it and do your own research as well.  To help aid you in your research I have included some of my personal findings from veteran Mom’s.

  • One thing is the nipple…how it lengthens when baby sucks. VERY similar to breast. I think you will find (OK, hope we are all women here…lol) that your nipples will be elongated after nursing.
  • These looks like a great product.  I like the way the shape of the nipple is so similar the real deal.  My daughter was bottle picky when it was time for me to go back to work.
  • I like the concept but with bottles, etc. you really have to try them because it depends on the baby just as much as the product itself. But like I said, I like the concept!

Picking a Coffee Table?

So Michael and I have talked about the whole TV thing I talked about in a previous post and have decided we really don’t want one in our living room.  We have actually found ourselves sitting in that room now that it is cleaned out.  But we need a coffee table in there because there is no place for you to set you beverage or any other item besides the floor.

I really don’t know what type we want to put in that room because we don’t know what our furniture is going to look like.  They make so many different coffee tables it is nuts.  My Mother in Law bought us this nifty table that had a metal inset down the middle and you could fill it with water or even plant flowers in it!  The cats don’t let us have plants in the house so I just put some fake flowers and stones in it.

So many choices for furniture in general and we have no idea just yet.  We have to repair the wood floors in there still, then we have to paint, then we have to figure out furniture placement with what we have and eventually we will buy new stuff and make it what we want!

False Alarm = Cranky Preggo

S0 after hearing back from the Obgyn on call we got in the car and traveled down to the hospital at 2:44 am.  There are pros and cons to this trip but the cons are the most memorable!

It took us 40 minutes in the middle of the night to get there and I hope that when the real thing starts it isn’t during the hours of 5am and 11pm.    We got sooo very lucky because we hit 1 stop light and there were zero cars on the road.  It still felt like forever though.  Any sort of traffic is going to put it at an hour drive and if I get rush hour… oh boy I don’t want to imagine that!

Sure enough I hadn’t sent in my paperwork so I had to fill it out once we got there.. ugh.  Standing wasn’t the most enjoyable task by any means.  Once I got into triage they hooked me up to the monitors and had me sit there for 30 minutes to monitor the contractions.  For 30 minutes we got to listen to the baby’s heartbeat which is pretty cool but that little baby was all over the board!  It has typically had a heart rate of 145-160 every time we were at out obgyn appointments.  This baby was ranging from 145-180!  I have no idea why the heart beat was so high for most of the 30 minutes but it wanted us to hear it in there!

Of course my contractions lose their excruciating pain and just come with bouts of tightness.  I swear I waited 3 hours of contractions before arriving!  So the nurse comes in to do the ultrasound and verify that the head is down and sure enough it is.  I could have told her that one because I feel the baby in my vagina when it wiggles around it’s head.  (that’s a bizarre feeling!)  She said I had a good amount of amniotic fluid and wanted to check my cervix.

I am not sure if this nurse just had really short fingers or what but she took forever to check my cervix.  She kept saying ‘oh it’s really far back there’  ’oh it’s just out of reach’.  Oh goodness lady you are ripping my vagina in half  with your hand!  haha  The whole checking the cervix thing is pretty uncomfortable but manageable.  Then the bad news… my cervix is still closed.  Seriously???  After all of these contractions I don’t get a little something to describe progress??

So the nurse tells me since my contractions are irregular and I am not dilated that she is discharging me.  What a waste of a trip.  She said to drink lots of water because it could be brought on by dehydration.  I just looked at her and told her ‘I am peeing clear there is no way I am dehydrated’.

Poor Michael had 3 hours of sleep and we got home right as his alarm went off to get up for work.  So he started getting ready for work as soon as we got home.  He is pooped!  But he is such a trooper because he said he would go to Rite Aid and/or Walgreens and get a few time sensitive deals this week.  The cases of water are $2.39 at Walgreens until tonight so I really really wanted to pick some up!  I might be able to get him to stop and get me the Got2Be hair spray at Rite Aid but I don’t want to take advantage of his offer.

So today I spent it laying around and sleeping.  Around 2pm this afternoon things started to get less painful so hopefully I can accomplish some things tomorrow.

26 more days…. ahhhh

Pretend Labor… A Preggo’s Enemy

So I don’t think I was fully prepared for this whole Braxton Hicks thing.  I am due in 26 days now and I think I am lucky to be getting any sort of belly pains.

Yesterday we got up early and drove down to the Rochester area to get our maternity photos taken by Adam Sparkes Photography.  It was a lot of fun getting them done and it was such a beautiful day for pictures to be taken.  Adam is actually my photography teacher from a college class that I just took.

But as enjoyable as the photo shoot was, what started afterwards was a small dose of hell on earth.  Towards the end of the photo shoot it became very hard to smile because my belly was sooo tight.  By the time we were all done and one our way home, about 2pm, I was in pain!  It was incredibly uncomfortable but I just lounged around the house for the rest of the afternoon.

Who would have thought that this buggers would have lasted until about 10pm!  I was happy when things got settled down for me to go to bed.  BUT come 12:33 am I am rudely awoken by a sharp pain in my belly.  So downstairs I go so I can let Michael sleep.  About 1:50 am I barf up dinner but I have no idea if that is from being in pain??

So here I am 1.5 hours later still in pain.  I really am no good at this because I don’t know what to expect.  They say to track your contractions but does that mean the sharp shooting pain that is going across the belly to my back?  Or just the incredibly tight and uncomfortable tightness across my belly?

Or how about this… how do you really tell when one starts and one ends?  There isn’t really a lot of relief here.  From what terrible tracking I am doing I am having a shooting pain about every 2 minutes.  But how long they last is beyond me.  They start with a sharp pain and end in tightness???  Ugh why don’t they just make an alarm that say’s ‘you’re in labor!’.  Life would be much easier.

  • Am I ready? Yes and no.
  • Are my bags pack? No I’ve been meaning to do that.
  • Do I want to drive to Royal Oak at 2am? Umm… no.

This is a situation in my opinion.  I went upstairs to talk to Michael about it and he told me to quit moving around and said I need to relax for the next two days.  Really babe?  I wish he had an idea of what this felt like.

I guess I will go call the after hours answering service because they know more than me.  So they are having the on call doctor call me back now.

Target Clearance Finds (.24 Maternity Shirts!)

target maternity

Target is well known for their clearance and I can’t go into the store without browsing every single clearance location because you never know what gem you are going to find!  I went yesterday to pick up a deal I read on another blog and left with some fantastic finds!

Always always print off the $3 coupon for any Liz Lange apparel when you see it available on Target’s website!  Even if you aren’t pregnant you can still wear a t-shirt that is friendly in the belly region.  I was able to find two shirts in the clearance for $3.24 so with my $3 coupon they only cost me .24!  You can’t even get a price like that at The Salvation Army!  I was even lucky because they were in my size!  There were other apparel pieces in other sizes too ranging in $1.50 – $10 so keep your eyes peeled.

I was amazed to find these two frames marked down so much too!  They were $1.98 each and happen to match the decor that I am putting into the guest bedroom… eventually.  I highly doubt the guest bedroom is going to get done before this baby gets here!  My store had a ton of frames in perfect condition for dirt cheap so take a peek at your store.

Another hot coupon deal that I had to get while I was there was for two bathroom shelves/towel racks.  Target had a $10 off bathroom furnishing coupon and it made one $4.99 and the other $6.99.  If you saw our bathrooms and lack of any sort of storage you would totally understand my desire for these pieces!  They are very similar to the one pictured above.  I will slowly make things livable in this house but without breaking the budget!

My tip to you is to always leave some extra time available if you are making a trip to Target because you just never know what you will find!  Oh.. and print those high value coupons and carry them with you!

Mailbox Freebies This Week

freebies 6-25

This week was the week for smokers that’s for sure!  I am thrilled Michael doesn’t smoke anymore but that doesn’t mean I still don’t get all of the coupons.  Marlboro coupons go to my best friend and the Camels to whomever will use them.  Even though I strongly despise smoking and judge everyone who smokes I still don’t want you to pay full price for them.  Shoot me if that statement makes you mad but free speech is a beautiful thing :)

I was slightly bummed that the Pull Ups coupon didn’t come sooner though!  That buy 5 get $5 off sale at Kroger included Pull Ups wipes for $1.49!!  I only recently learned of this because I went to a different Kroger and they carry them.  I wish all Kroger stores would carry the same products!

This is our second magazine in the free 6 month subscription to Parents magazine from Huggies!  And Neurology Now is a free magazine all of the time if you want to sign up for it.  I don’t recommend signing up for it unless you have an interest in Neurological issues.

  1. Camel Coupons
  2. Marlboro Coupons
  3. Tena samples + coupon
  4. Pull Ups sample + coupon
  5. Turkey Hill coupons
  6. Parents Magazine
  7. Neurology Now Magazine
  8. Miracle eye cream sample
  9. Degree sample + coupon
  10. Birthday reminder tabs from Camel

Register That Kroger Card Online!

kroger q

So this week I was surprised with coupon booklet to Kroger from Kroger!  OK- when I would visit my Mother’s house she would have these fabulous Kroger coupons and since I lived in a different county I would get nothing!  I was green with envy but not anymore!!

I made this picture a little bigger so you would be able to see them better.  There are great coupons to be had!

  1. FREE Oreos
  2. FREE Lay chips
  3. $1/5 in produce
  4. $1/5 in deli
  5. $1/5 in meat
  6. $1/5 in household items
  7. .40 off Kroger icecream
  8. $1 off Kroger paper towel

These are store coupons- not manufacturer coupons- so you can not use them at another store.  Make sure you always update your account online so you get surprises like this in the mail sometimes too!  The chain of Kroger stores in Genesee County is a lot more generous than the ones in Oakland County!

My Top Ten Time Saving Tips #StarbucksApp

I love being busy because it makes me feel like I am being productive.  But I do not enjoy not having enough time in my day to get all of the important things done.  I sure can not wait until I am not sleeping so much but I guess that I trade in sleeping a lot for feeding the baby all of the time.  hmmm…

  1. Multi Task
    • I hate cleaning but at least there are two chores that you can do at the same time as doing other things around the house and those are: running the dishwasher and doing laundry.  Those two chores are always guaranteed to get done at my house each week because they are the easiest.
  2. Make a List
    • I have always been a huge list person and I have a notebook I carry with me everywhere so I can document any tasks I need to complete.  When they are done I highlight them in yellow so it keeps my list neat but I see I am getting things done.  By making a list you can also prioritize your tasks.  I will be honest… I don’t always prioritize the right way!
  3. Close Social Media Down
    • Be honest.  We all belong to some sort of social media and it is so very easy to get lost in a sea of updates and tweets.  I personally hate seeing a notification and have to see what it is.  That is how they get you!  If I have a deadline for something I always open a different browser or close the media tabs all together.  But we all need a source of mindless entertainment after a stressful day.
  4. Use Your DVR
    1. This sounds silly but my DVR is the best invention we own in this house!  The ability to fast forward and pause your favorite show is a time saver.  I cut at least 10-15 minutes out of a show just by skipping the commercials!  Not to mention you can watch them whenever you want AKA a more convenient time.
  5. Be Realistic
    • This is one I struggle with A LOT!  I commit to XYZ and there is no way I can get XYZ done in addition to the normal tasks that take place in life.  I have always tried to be a people pleaser but it always stretched me way to thin.  I am coming around and taking things easier and I think it has to do with being pregnant believe it or not!  I am already uncomfortable so why make it worse?
  6. Don’t Compare Yourself
    1. Don’t lie because we all have done it.  Well why can so and so have 4 kids and her house is so tidy?  You do not know what circumstances are at her house- heck she could have a maid that you do not know about!  Just figure out what is important to your household and make it happen.  If you and your family are content then all is well.
  7. Freezer Meals
    • I have yet to implement this one but I am pretty close to so we have some quick and easy meals for right after the baby is born.  Shoot you can even go to places or swaps and come home with a variety of meals that you can freeze and heat up each night.  You can always swap meals with your Mommy friends too if you don’t have a swap network close by.
  8. Get a Crock Pot!
    • I love my crock pot and actually have two large ones and two small ones because they make my life so much easier.  Remember the multi task bullet above?  Well this is the ultimate because you prepare your crock pot meal in the morning and let it cook all day.  By the time dinner comes around all you have to do is serve it up!  It doesn’t get much easier than that!
  9. Online Bill Paying
    • We pay all of our bills online except for our mortgage really.  You login and a few clicks and you are done!  Not to mention it saves paper and time opening up all of that mail!  I wish all companies would stop sending paper because it is such a waste when you can just do it all online.  No buying stamps and envelopes, no writing out checks, no sending the mail, no throwing away the papers just login and click.  It’s a beautiful thing!
  10. Get Up Early/Good Rest
    • I hate to admit to this one because I am more of a night owl myself but if you are awake during the day you tend to get more done.  Well for some.  Once I get back to a normal sleep pattern I will be so much more productive!  Let me give you an example: Sleep by 11pm, wake up to pee at 2am, wake up to pee at 5am, wake up for the day/pee at 11am-noon.  That is half of the day right there!  Getting a good night’s rest so you aren’t up and down makes for a productive day when you wake up!

My Kroger Trip This Week

kroger 6-22

I FINALLY made it to Kroger this week!  Having an appointment in Oakland County sure takes up the majority of my day and sets me all sorts of behind.  Not to mention I am one tired Mama!  I didn’t get a lot while I was there but I really really needed to get another round of the wipes deal!

Here’s the breakdown:

5 Huggies Wipes = FREE
4 Bar S Franks = FREE
2 Pure Protein Bars = FREE
2 Tic Tacs = FREE
3 Ronzoni Garden Delight Pasta = FREE
2 Gold Fish Grahams = .60
4 Gold Fish Crackers = $1.80
Hormel 3.5 oz Pepperoni = .40

Paid with $1.60 in bottle returns
Used (3) bag credits .15
OOP = $1.18

I saved 98.5% this shopping trip and this store brings our budget for the week to $26.89 and that includes the additional trip I took to PetSmart this week.  I want to look up some good recipes for pepperoni.  I know there have to be tons out there they aren’t just pizza.

I found a good deal while I was in the store too!  The Kraft Dressing (Italian, Ranch and 1000 Island) is on sale for $1 so you can use the $1/2 coupon from 6/19 SS and score two free bottles.  There weren’t any on the shelf when I was in there so hopefully you have better luck!

My Favorite Kroger Deals This Week

Make sure to sign up for the Kroger card in store at the customer service desk.  When you get your card you can go home and load digital coupons to it through Cellfire or right on Kroger’s site.  These digital coupons may prevent you from using a paper coupon on an item because you are only allowed one coupon per item.

You can also set up your Kroger card to donate to a charity!  For example: I have my card connected to donate to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  You will also earn fuel points on your card that you can redeem at Shell stations to save money on gas.

My Kroger will double coupons up to $1 but the stores in Oakland County DO NOT.  The also have a .05 bag credit so bring in your bags!

Do Generic Medicines Really Work?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

120x30_WalgrensTransparentLogo

OK- my Husband will only drink Folgers coffee and it drives me bonkers because I have to find a really good price for me to not be cranky about buying it.  Who am I kidding?  I am still cranky because it is never FREE haha!  But he will take a generic allergy medicine and I am so thankful for that.

I do a ton of shopping at Walgreens and I will buy him the Walgreens Brand Health and Wellness Products when I haven’t had the time to sit down and do a price comparison.  You know how it is: they don’t tell you that they have run out or are running low until it’s too late!

This week there was a sale on Wal-Fex and I really wanted to try it out on him because Allegra was the Mac Daddy of allergy medicines in my house growing up!  My store was all sold out so I will go back in and check after they get their truck.

These products are recommended by their pharmacists as well but they take it one step further and have put a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their Walgreens Brand Health and Wellness Products.  So it doesn’t hurt to try it out because you have a company standing behind the product saying that they will give you your money back if you aren’t happy.  That works for me!  Most generics contain the same ingredients as the name brand item anyways.

Pharmacist

Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products have worked just fine for Michael and help me stay within my weekly budget.  Walgreens is also donating .01 from every purchase of their Health and Wellness Products to local communities working on preventative health programs through the Walgreens Way to Well Fund™!

Of course we all love free things and the chance to win things so Walgreens has teamed up with a handful of bloggers and they are offering giveaways on their site with an easy one comment entry!   Advertisement

CVS Shopping This Week + A Few Matchups

cvs

Well I stopped into CVS after my Obgyn appointment and was able to find a couple of the deals by going to two stores.

Transaction 1:

2 Colgate Total Toothpastes $5.58
1 Power Bar Protein Bites $2.29
- (2) $1 Colgate coupons
Paid with $5 ECBS
OOP = $1.40
Got back $6.49 in ECBs

Transaction 2:

2 Schick Hydro 5 razors b1g1 ($10.49)
Hershey Bliss $5.99
Irish Spring $2.99

Coupons Used:
$1 off bliss from 5/1 SS
(2) $4 off Schick from 6/12 SS
$1 off Irish Spring from CVS booklet

Paid with $6.49 ECBs
OOP = $3.35
Got back $7.99 in ECBs

So I meant to grab the Schick Hydro 3 razors and not the 5 because those are about $8.99 not $10.49 making them $1.25 apiece which I regret but that’s life.  I spent $5.19 OOP and I have $7.99 to use when I have my next OB appointment.  Once my back starts hurting I stop focusing on the task at hand… only 4.5 more weeks to go and this 20 pound watermelon is out of my belly!

Always double check your ad when things aren’t marked on the shelf.  My store didn’t have the toothpaste marked so I just verified it was included in the sale in the ad and sure enough my ECBs printed out on my receipt!

The CVS coupon book I am referring to is on sale for .99 and is the Reinventing Beauty book found in the stores- usually in the makeup section.  It includes:

  1. $1 off Irish Spring body wash, deodorant or soap
  2. $1 off Colgate Total gum Defense toothpaste
  3. $1 off any Lady Speed Stick
  4. $1 off Crystal Light drink mix
  5. $3 off Nature Made vitamins

These coupons will expire on 6/30/11 and can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon if you have one.  EX: Take a $1 Colgate Gum Defense coupon and also use the $1 CVS Colgate Gum Defense coupon to get $2 off!
