Top Five Ways to Get Cheap Halloween Candy
When considering your overall budget, fitting in Halloween candy may not be your top priority. It’s true that Halloween candy is expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few strategies to help!
Set a Limit
If I don’t set a limit on the amount of Halloween candy to buy, I end up thinking I don’t have enough. This can lead to budgetary – and unnecessary – stress.
With preparation, Halloween candy doesn’t have to cost a lot of money – you do, however, need to have a goal in mind regarding the total amount that you want to spend on it. Usually, I like to spend $10 or less – this may sound difficult, but for me it’s a great challenge! Plus, it gives me the boundary I need for my fun Halloween purchases.
Calculate the Price
There are many sizes, shapes, kinds and packaging when it comes to buying Halloween candy. It’s important to choose a common measurement to compare prices in order to determine if you’re getting a good deal.
Halloween candy is usually measured by unit, pound or ounce. Choose one of these categories and use it consistently to compare which is better – a forty ounce bag for $8.99 or an eighteen ounce bag for $4.49. Carry a calculator and divide the price by the category you chose, either units, pounds or ounces. This should help you decide which package provides the most for your money.
Store Deals and Coupons
To make life manageable, shop for Halloween candy where you already purchase groceries and other necessities. Most stores put out weekly ads, and now’s the time to start paying attention to any store specials or coupons on Halloween candy. These can be combined with manufacturer coupons from the Sunday paper or online.
Take advantage of any in-store programs that could provide you with “free money.” I like to use my family members’ prescriptions for gift card promotions – the latest at one drug store was a $25 gift card for the transfer of a prescription. This gift card is what I like to call “free money,” and helps fund those extras like Halloween candy. I also like to use store and manufacturer coupons for even more savings!
Consider Alternatives to Candy
Not everyone likes to give out candy on Halloween night, and there are many other inexpensive items that can be purchased through online party supply stores. Consider filling your candy bowl with bubbles, temporary tattoos, stickers, fun erasers, and pencils. Calculate the price per unit to find the best deals. These alternatives to candy can be just as cheap, and won’t tempt the treaters to trick you!
